Aloha: Episode III

Continuing with the tradition of compiling our videos and pictures taken throughout the year into a final comprehensive film, we present you with Aloha: Episode III – Around the World. Like the other Aloha productions, it was a long week of organizing media and editing, but as always, we think it was worth the time and effort. Most importantly, you’ll not want to miss Kalani’s dance video: My DJ which rolls after the credits.

Here’s a full list of what’s been updated since our last post:

There’s been a wedding in the family!

October 2nd, 2005 No comments

Jasmine

We’ve just heard from Cousin Jana that she was married on September 24th, 2005, to Vincent DeRamus! Judging from the beautiful pictures, the wedding looks like it was held at nice quiet place in England. We’re happy for Jana and look forward to meeting Vincent.

Family Updates:

Tia & Kalani recently flew to Texas to spend a week with Tia’s college roommate Angela DeLong. Tia and Angela were best of friends at BYU-Hawaii. Angela is now married with two young daughters. Tia & Kalani had a great time and some of their pictures can be seen in Kalani’s photo album. Tia’s next trip will be to Hawaii this month for 10 days, accompanying her father and brother to celebrate the Golden Jubilee – 50 years of BYU Hawaii.

While Tia’s traveling the globe, I’m trying to keep my head above water with 21 units at California State University of Sacramento (Sac State). Seven classes this semester, six more next year, and I’ll graduate with a bachelors in Management Information Science. Though it seems like there is light at the end of the tunnel, I will most likely be applying to graduate school next year in order to hopefully make enough money some day to keep up with Tia’s plane tickets and shopping habits.

Lastly, we wanted to mention Makana’s article in the Omaha World-Herald. The local newspaper did a story on the Mormon Church, focusing on our missionary efforts. They featured Makana and her companion in the article as an example of a missionary companionship, outlining what they do day to day.

Latest Additions… (Articles, Africa, Adam, Albums, etc..)

July 23rd, 2005 No comments

Back in April I posted photos of my 1997 vacation to Kenya, Africa. True to the spirit of this website serving as a library for family media, I’ve downloaded our old VHS footage and put it online for everyone to enjoy. The original VHS is a long 80 minutes of driving through the African bush and coming across just about every animal you can imagine. For the sake of boredom I’ve edited the video down to 15 minutes of highlights. The video can be found in our Videos – Vacations section. Enjoy.

I have recently written two articles in response to common problems with the average home PC. The first article is called Windows PC Tune-Up Guide and discusses nine steps that can be taken to drastically improve Windows performance. With the onslaught of modern day spyware/adware/junkware and viruses, many PCs are plagued and bogged down with infectious software unbeknownst to the user. If you’re looking to clean up your PC and rid yourself of such things, the tune-up guide is a great place to start.

The second article entitled Free Equivalents of Commercial Software discusses the vast library of free software available online whose usefulness and functionality rivals that of the major commercial software. Included is a sample list of common commercial software, and its freeware equivalent.

My younger brother Adam recently finished his three week term in the Missionary Training Center. He arrived this week to his mission: The Utah Salt Lake City Mission. I’m hoping that Adam will send lots of photos and letters for us to share here, much like we do with Makana.

Speaking of Makana and missions. We recently received a DVD of Makana doing a role play during Zone Conference, which I’ve posted in her albums. Enjoy.

We also have two new albums under Tia & Matt Farley. The first is our most recent Mike Farley Family Portraits — taken just before the departure of Adam on his mission.

The second is a whopping 190 photos of the first official Farley Family Reunion since 1991. The reunion was held at a beautiful resort called Asilomar, on the coast near Monterey. If you would like high resolution copies of any of the photos in this album, contact Grandpa or myself, and we’ll be happy to provide.

Lastly, I’ve been doing a lot of programming at work with the new Google Maps API. On the API newsgroups I came across something that looked interesting enough to implement on farleyfamily.net. This page shows a graphical representation of cities/countries from which farleyfamily.net viewers browse to this site. The script identifies users by their IP address and uses the database at www.hostip.info to match user IPs with geographical locations. The end result is an interactive Google Map plotting each city from which a user has browsed our site. Check it out: FarleyFamily.Net Visitor Map (give it a moment to load). Be sure to check out the interactivity: click the plots, drag the map, zoom in/out, etc.

More from Makana and Kalani

Matt Farley, Tia Farley, and Kalani Farley

Kalani continues to grow and learn new tricks everyday. We won’t bore you with the typical parental guess-what-our-baby-did, but we have posted her latest picture album.

The family directory has been updated to reflect instant messaging contact information, particularly: ICQ, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, and MSN Messenger. Each person in the directory has their email listing, as well as icons representing their instant messenger contact info. If someone subscribes to a particular service, the icon will be highlighted and clickable to reveal their screen name / contact.

We have finally received a good amount of pictures from Makana on her mission in Ohama Nebraska. Those albums can be found as Omaha: April and Omaha: May. She was recently transferred and her new address is:

Sister Makana Limary2332 Bel Court #6Omaha, NE 68112

From one of Makana’s recent letters:

After three different Sisters coming down with migraines, and my still current battle against this stomach problem.. we finally got to move. They did a mold check in the apt and couldn’t find anything. Then one of the senior couples said maybe its psychological.. Holy cow.. What is it with people and thinking that i am crazy?!
