“Today it is your birthday and we sing to let you know. That you will be queen for the day, whatever you say goes.” (Barbie-12 Dancing Princesses) Today Kalani turned 5 years old! She had a few requests:

- Breakfast in Bed
- I sing her that birthday song from 12 Dancing Princesses
- We visit a castle
It really is such a joy to have Kalani as our daughter…although my first year as a mother was difficult. She is NOT shy at all and makes friends rather easily which allows me to make friends. She is also pretty easy to travel with, which is nice for us since we like to travel! Happy Birthday and We Love You Kalani!
It really isn’t that big of a secret to know that I don’t really care to cook. I can cook and follow a recipe, but I would much rather eat someone else’s food or go out to eat. Still, I know that cooking is important and I want my children to know how to follow a recipe and maybe even enjoy cooking. So, while we were at the store Kalani saw this box to make Barbie cupcakes…really just white cupcakes with pink frosting, but Barbie was on the box. I almost didn’t buy the box because we really don’t need cupcakes in our house, but I decided to let Kalani have a try at baking.

She mixed the batter and frosting all by hand since we don’t have a mixer here in Scotland. Then she decorated each cupcake. Of course by the end of the day we had eaten all of these cupcakes. I hope that she will love to cook. I think that each Friday will be our “cooking” or “baking” day when we get back to the state. And when she gets older she will be in charge of cooking dinner at least once a week. One less cooking day for me!

The weather is getting to be nicer here in Aberdeen so I wanted to go for a walk. I talked to a friend at church about meeting up with her today to hang out, chat and possibly go out for a walk…if the weather was nice. It wasn’t raining or snowing and the sun even peeked out at times. We went on a walk following an old railway line that they turned into a bike/walking path.

We saw some cows, deer and horses on our walk. Kalani had a great time running around and seeing the beautiful countryside. She makes going on walks so much fun because she get so excited about everything that she sees. She tried feeding a horse a carrot, but the carrot fell out of her hands and she wasn’t too sure about having the horse’s teeth near her hand.

We are planning on going on some more walks before we leave. A great way to see the country and it is free exercise!

For the past 3 days I have seen this red fox in our backyard. But every time I spot him I don’t have my camera near by. Well, today Kalani was playing with her toys by the window and alerted Matt and I when she spotted the fox. Matt was able to capture the fox on video.

The weather in Aberdeen, Scotland really isn’t that bad…especially compared to what the Eastern United States is having to deal with. In town where we live the roads are fairly easy to drive on since so many cars use them and the snow doesn’t pile up like it does in the countryside. We are experiencing our 2nd snow storm of the year. It snowed very lightly on Monday and then snowed more heavily on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday (today). Kalani and I were very happy that it was Matt’s Friday off of work so he could play in the snow with us.

We haven’t bought snow gear since it doesn’t snow that often and we will be leaving Aberdeen in a few months.

Our neighbor saw us playing in the snow and offered to let us use their sled.

Kalani loved having her dad to play with her in the snow. After this picture we went inside and had some hot chocolate and a warm bath. It was a Fantastic Farley Family Fun Day!
